Good Fortune Mystery Clue #3

It is week three of Bonnie Hunter's  "Good Fortune Mystery".   I'm linking up to Bonnie's Linky Party here:   Linky party week 3

Warm Winter Wishes Quilt

I did get "Warm Winter Wishes" quilted this last week.  I love the way it turned out.  This was quilt #10 that I've moved from the  "to be Quilted" pile to the "done".  I still have at least 10 in that pile, but I had promised myself that  I would not work on piecing anything else until I had finished 10 of those  "tops waiting for some quilty love".    It feels so good to reach this milestone.

So having reached the completion of #10,  I am able to bring out the next chapters....  I've been working on "Jamestown Landing" in greens rather than blues,  a Bonnie Hunter quilt for nearly 2 years now, a leaders and enders to get the mountain of 840 half square triangles done.    My plan of attack is to work on Jamestown landing, while doing the current mystery, "Good Fortune" as leaders and enders.

This is the final batch!

My project box....  string pieces done....

Getting started on the Triangles
This is Jamestown Landing in Blues...

This one isn't mine,  but it's the same color... greens and neutrals

Mystery Progress?   I am about 60% done with Clue #1   10% done with clue #2  and 40% done with clue #3.   All pieces are cut for both clues 2 and 3.  I'm working clue #1 from the little squares in my Scrap Users System rather than from strip sets.

Good Fortune Mystery Step 2

I'm still working on that list of UFO;s.   Got my guild obligations done for the month.  Now I'm working on quilting, the 10th of the 10 tops i promised myself I was going to finish before delving into Good Fortune  with earnst.

I did spend some time last week checking my strip bins and  ironing and stacking my fabrics that I plan to use when I get to that point.  (Hey, I had the iron on. LOL.)

I got another 5% of step one done as Leaders and Enders... over the last week,  and I couldn't help myself from cutting some triangles when I discovered some strips that were already cut in the colors I'm using.   I still had the iron out, along with the spray starch, and cut what I could for step 2.  I stitched up a handful, (about 5%) and pressed them to check my accuracy.   They will also be used as Leaders and Enders as I work on Jamestown Landing when I'm done with the quilting foot.

My steps 1 and step 2 playing together for a brief moment.

This is "Warm Winter Wishes".    It is quilt number 10 that I'm finishing.   This was a Row Robin on the internet with my Quilting Sisters.    I chose the theme,  and did the applique row with the houses,  the checkerboard rows, and the piano key borders.    The other rows were done by members of the group.

I also pieced and attached the borders to the following QOV I was working on on our Sew Day.   Some other sewists completed the center portion,  but I was assigned the borders.   I struggled with the crowded space I was using, and decided to bring it home and finish it in a day, rather than over the next 5 months.      The pattern is called "Hurrah"  by Minnick and Simspon.

Mystery quilt? It's a mystery to me, where all these UFO's came from.....

I'm following Bonnie Hunter's mystery this year..... but am sitting on my hands,  instead of joining in.

My Roll, roll, Cotton Boll,  still needs to be quilted!  Along with at least a dozen other completed tops.... and the list of tops in progress in varying stages.

I did do a pretty good job in 2016, of not starting anything I wasn't going to finish ASAP.

I made this golf-themed quilt for my brother in law. Started it  and finished it in a week!

"Fairway Views"  64 x 80
Sorry... that is really a blurry picture... but until my sister send me the ones from her phone,   I don't have a better one.

I also started and finished a Tile Tango for a donation quilt.   There was also a baby quilt that was started and finished back in Jan / Feb.    Gifted!

Maybe that's the key.... I need to have a purpose to finish.  ðŸ˜Œ 😌 😌 😌 😌

Then there were the UFO finishes....  You can see a complete list over on my side bar.

A look back through the postings for this year will show you pictures of them.

I did finish 2 tops  this fall that were exchange blocks / row robins, that I had received all the components.

"Flury"  by Kate Spain
"Flury"was a block exchange.   We each made a gift box for each other person in the group,  and mailed it along with at least four  2.5" squares of our fabrics....   I used some Christmas fabrics from my Mom's stash to lengthen from 12 gift boxes to 20 to make it the size I wanted.

"Warm Winter Wishes"   a 2015  Internet Row Robin
A different internet group....  we each chose a theme,  and group members made a row to fit in.   Between planning and mailing of the first rows, the original group became a group of just 4 of us....  down from an original group of 8 or 9.... and since I wanted a larger quilt,  I added some extra of my own.   Most of the snow fabrics I used for this were from a different internet "snow ball fight" exchange where we mailed a "sweet sixteen" ( 9" x 11" )  of a snow fabric to each person in the group.   There were a lot of us in that group.... and I still have some pieces that had "Christmas" hints in them to use later.    I wanted this quilt to be for use in January and Early February after the Christmas decorations and quilts are put away.
My project this week, is to bust through a box of scraps that needs to be tamed into  my scrap saver sizes.   (One of my current projects needs 192 four patch blocks).

Sometimes the little finishes are the best...

So this week, I had the luxury of finishing up  some small blocks called "Wild and Goosey" that Bonnie Hunter had published in Quiltmaker magazine this last spring. (April/ May 2014)   The blocks are small at 3" finished,  and are paper pieced.  They are like potato chips... you can't make just one.

I made some in scrappy mode....  all from little crumbs and scraps....  they turned out cute....

Then... I thought about a project I want to do for our guild.... a small quilt (under 24" square), that will go in our small quilt raffle.  I pulled out my scrap drawers and pulled scraps that  were purple and lime green.  This is the result.... it measures 9" square.  Still needs to be quilted and bound, but I don't need it until April.

Who would ever think that these are pieces that many throw away?  Those little white areas are less than 1" square!

If you want to make some of these adorable blocks, do a google search for "Wild and Goosey"  and you should be able to find the PDF of the downloadable pattern to print out.

Then I have signed up for 4 blocks for a baby quilt.....  This is a Moda Bakeshop pattern called "Jungle Path".  It goes together quickly  and are 10" blocks.   These are ready to send out in the mail.

I still need to make a couple of pinwheel blocks for another baby project, they need to go in the same envelope, so those are next on the line.

I also finished the final 2 blocks of our Block of the Month project for Guild.  Being the chairperson, means you need to work ahead.  I had all the blocks done in October, but didn't take enough of a couple of  fabrics with me to retreat where I worked on them last.   It feels so Good to get those off my "to do List".

I also finished the row I had of the 2015 Stitchin' Sisters Row Robin I'm participating in this year.  We all chose our own theme....  I mailed my starter row earlier in Jan.  My theme is "Winter".... my thoughts were around winter items "NOT CHRISTMAS"... so  snowmen, snowflakes, mittens, cocoa, birds, branches, etc.  I had snowflake fabrics from an internet exchange several years ago, and this seemed like the perfect way to put them to use.

The checkerboard is one of three "filler rows" I have made.  I sent it along to let everyone see the variety of blues I envision.  I will also add a pieced border using the same fabrics... piano key... or some other idea....  I want to use all my fabrics though.

Vanessa's starter row arrived at my home last week, right on time.  Her theme is "Coffee and Cupcakes".  She sent a little fabric along with her row.   It didn't take this project very long to talk to me....  I made log cabin blocks in brown and tans. Appliqued a small cupcake from the fabric she sent in the middle of each block.  Then made 3 larger applique blocks with coffee cups on them.  These don't have to be mailed until after the 20th of February.. but I'm early for a change... That feels good too!

Here are some of the individual blocks in close up.  They finish at 8".  We aren't attaching our rows, as most of us want to add extra filler rows to make our tops larger when we get them back later this year.

While none of these is  a huge project... it sure is nice to clear them off the project table.  I'm wanting to put another top or two into the sandwich and quilt mode, so getting these little things done helps a bunch.
